As a Lenten project the St. Gerard School community is being asked to participate in an alms giving (give to others) project.  We are holding a baby food drive for the week of March 12-16, which has been extended to include the week of March 19-23.  We are asking each student to bring in baby food (infant boxed cereal and jarred baby food) for this event.  A donation on behalf of all the families of St. Gerard School will be given to Villa Rosa.

On March 14, students completed the Junior Achievement program called Our Business World with Mr. Horeczy.  Students also watched a presentation from Agriculture in the Classroom about farming and the stages that a farmer goes through to produce a crop.  We even learned that St. Isidore is the patron saint of farmers.

In Social Studies, we read and discussed information about clans, clan mothers, and chiefs.  We discussed what the roles of clan mothers and chiefs were when the First Peoples came to Canada.

In Science, students were given different solids and liquids.  They looked at the solids and liquids and described them.  For example, oil looks yellow while water is clear.  Oil feels greasy while water doesn't.  Characteristics and Properties of Matter were listed in notebooks.  A few of the characteristics are appearance, texture, and flexibility.

In Math, we continue with our look at Estimation.  We are looking at rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100, and 1000.  Students are aware of the rule for rounding off, and are practicing.
We will begin our multiplication Mad Minutes and continue with working on increasing our problem solving strategies.
